Although many conservative preachers and theological writers give striking messages on current topics, they often fail to explain the meaning of the very text which they quote to support their message. Believers need an explanation of the Bible's message for their own day. The problem of interpretation looms large in all of current theological literature. Biblical Viewpoint devotes each issue to a different book of the Bible. The title, Biblical Viewpoint, is not meant to imply an arrogant or presumptuous attitude, but rather a determination to let the meaning of Scripture decide the theological position of the periodical instead of reading into Scripture a preconceived philosophical or theological interpretation. One presupposition which all the contributors will confess is a fervent faith in the verbal inspiration and authority of the Bible. To carry out its purpose, each issue of Biblical Viewpoint will offer a variety of expositions from a specific book of the Bible. It is not intended to be a commentary on the book, but to provide thought-provoking ideas and "sermon starters" from a number of different passages. Then follow articles on particular aspects of the book, and a brief survey of the theological teaching of the book and an annotated bibliography to guide the reader in his further study. - v. 1 no. 1 (April 1967), p. 5.
